I'm about to let you in on a secret about where I get my books for $2... The Deseret Industries. "Deseret Industries (D.I.) is a non-profit organization and a division of the Welfare Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It includes a chain of retail thrift stores and work projects operated by the program" -Wikipedia.
My mom has been donating to the D.I. since I can remember. From old clothes to my sister Char's Star Wars memorabilia (shhhh... she still doesn't know). Well turns out people get rid of their books, who would have thought that there were people who are able to get rid of books! Well they do, and I am very grateful for them because now I get to buy books without feeling guilty about paying so much. On Saturdays when I am back home, my sisters and I go D.I.ing (yes, we have turned it into a verb) to atleast 5. Luckily they are all pretty close to my home. What to know if there is one close to you? Check out the app. My best D.I. find? One For The Money.
My sister Sam and I started trying to find all 18 or so books in this series a year ago. We each have our own separate books which means when we get to a D.I. we run to the books section and fight over them. Well neither of us had the first one, until one magical day when I found it. Yes, I did a lap around the store and gave some random worker a high five. Yes, Sam did punch me and gave me a dead arm. Worth it.
Some other great things I've gotten from the D.I.:
All Harry Potters, a Fossil Satchel, deer antlers, The DaVinci Code: Special Illustrated Edition, and much much more.
Well there it is, one of my greatest secrets! Felt good to get that one out... Now get out there and donate to your local D.I. and go find some cheap books!
Enjoy,
Mo Bridge
I will continue to shop there and buy back all my donations! LOVE YOU BABE!
